(Things that Made Me Happy this Week)

And I’ll be honest, I NEEDED a little forced happiness this week because it was, no lie, CRAZY. Not bad crazy, just hectic, all-over-the-place, fighting-to-catch-up crazy. Filled with “shoulds,” and “needs,” and internal compromises. The kind of crazy I figured fell out of a minivan packed with boys. But I don’t have a minivan…or boys.

Which meant that I needed to pull out my new favorite recipe to compensate. Friends, meet White Sangria. Note: my husband is a beer drinker, so that extra glass? It’s yours. Who’s in?

If you can’t make it to my house, you can make it at yours. You’ll love it. Trust.

3 bottles dry white wine  •  1/2 c Triple Sec or other orange liqueur  •  1 1/2 c no-pulp orange juice  •  1/4 c fresh lemon juice  •  6 tbsp sugar, or to taste  •  1 can of peaches, chopped  •  one apple, chopped  •  2 pt strawberries, sliced

That wasn’t the only recipe I picked up this week. I met a mom who changed the way I viewed wet park equipment. The only item needed to create this awesomeness: One diaper, size 5

This single diaper dried three slides, four swings, one of those weird bouncy-things, and a bench.

Not that I can afford to spare diapers these days, seeing as how TWO continues to decline potty training (“Um, I don’t tink-I-use-a potty, Mama. No tant-you.). She is VERY interested in her nether regions, however. The other day while in the bath she inspected herself in a way that would’ve made Charlotte York uncomfortable.

ME: You need to stop that, baby. You’re gonna hurt yourself.

TWO: Yeah. I no hurt-a-my-gina. (She spread out and pointed.) I no eat-a-that, right?

ME: …

I love that TWO’s finally speaking, I do. But what I love the most is that she somehow maintained her quiet side. A clothed side. A side content to spend hours reflecting on what it means to be 2.5.

Speaking of clothes, did I mention that ONE recently changed professions? Meet our “Cam Jansen,” well-dressed detective for hire. Not only does she solve mysteries, she does it with slammin’ accessories and mini roses.

“Mama? Let me know if something’s ever lost. Because I’m a detective and flowers help me think.”

It’s a good things she’s a detective too, because you know what she’s NOT? A cheerleader. I mean, I’m not being sh*tty or anything, it’s just not her calling. Here’s her newest cheer: “L-E-T-S-G-I-T-Y-S-O-R, LET’S GO!”  Here’s to hoping that’s the closest we get to pom poms. And that she learns how to spell. Soon.

And mostly my week was crazy because rehearsals started for this:

I showed up, knowing only my husband and the director, and everyone else was a REAL performer. Normally I’d be overwhelmed and very intimidated.  But something about this was different. Relaxed. Fun. Our first read-through was met with laughter (real laughter too, not that fake, sympathy sh*t ), and great feedback. It was invigorating.

And sharing that with my man? Having something we can do together minus the kids?

Doesn’t get more !!! than that.
