bad mommy moments show – Jessi Baden-Campbell

by ck on November 30, 2012

There was really no questioning it, when director Amy Couchoud and I discussed the order of storytellers for the SpeakeasyDC/Bad Mommy Moments Mother’s Day storytelling show last spring, we both agreed — the show had to start with Jessi.

Jessi’s sweet, delicate portrayal of a professional potty-mouth determined not to curse in front of her kids could warm up any audience. One can’t help but root for her as she proudly shares, “I come from a very long line of distinguished cursers. My parents curse. My grandparents curse. My great-grandparents came to this country with nothing but the shirt on their backs and the Yiddish word for ‘douchebag.’” And then Jessi met her future husband. And then they got married. And then she got pregnant and decided that she was going to be “the perfect mommy.” But in order to be “the perfect mommy” she had to stop cursing. And the first ten months of her daughter’s life were a-mazing. And then her daughter started speaking…

Just last month, Jessi’s story was chosen by SpeakeasyDC as one of 2012′s Top 24! Not surprisingly, of course. This opera singer knows how to command the stage. Congratulations, Jessi!

*Heads-up, as Jessi herself stated, the below video is “NOT SAFE FOR WORK (unless you work at the shipping yard).”
